The Process of Art & Design
Individual art is a path that represents the freedom to create and experiment with different ideas, materials and processes. The final outcome is often far different from the initial concept and at times can be very rewarding. The artist is the sole driving force behind the work and the success or failure of the piece and the need to re-design or rework is theirs to decide.
Commercial art, however, is a far different beast. Here the result is driven by the specific demands of the project at hand. Client requirements and the environment where the work will be placed have far greater impact on the piece being created. The end result always has to be a true representation of the initial concept and design. A high degree of discipline with the materials and processes involved combined with a deep understanding of the required final result is essential. The unforgiving realm of commercial art has been the true training ground of our understanding of design, materials and the art process.
This always involves working with a wide range of professionals, including developers, architects, builders and tradesmen. It requires an in-depth knowledge of the construction industry, the materials and the processes involved.
